UsePays is a minimalist bill payment platform designed for speed and accessibility, allowing users to top up airtime, pay for utilities, and manage subscriptions in seconds.
UsePays was built to challenge the complexity of traditional Nigerian bill payment platforms by offering a faster, simpler, and more intuitive user experience. The team aimed to launch a high-performance product quickly, with a user-first interface and a modular system capable of supporting future fintech features like vouchers, gift cards, and payment links.
The platform’s frontend was still in progress and lacked many critical features required for launch. Gift card and voucher support were incomplete, the payment link flow was buggy, and some funding-related transactions were failing silently due to backend and frontend mismatches. Additionally, the UI lacked smooth transitions and needed better user feedback mechanisms to build trust during transactions.
We built a stable and intuitive platform with clear flows and robust financial features. The gift card and voucher system was designed to be extensible and easy for users to redeem. Payment links were integrated into the system with proper status tracking and fallback logic. The frontend was polished with smooth transitions, responsive layouts, and visual feedback for every critical transaction point. By resolving key bugs and implementing user-requested features, we helped the team meet its public launch goals.
Developed a complete flow for users to redeem vouchers and purchase gift cards seamlessly
Enabled merchants to generate custom payment links with status tracking and automatic confirmations
Fixed top-up and wallet-related bugs that were blocking successful funding and causing user drop-off
Quick-select buttons for common payment amounts to reduce typing
Single search field to find any service or biller without deep navigation
Users can pin frequently used services for faster repeat payments
UsePays successfully launched with a robust and feature-complete platform. Transaction success rates improved significantly after funding bugs were resolved. Gift card and voucher usage contributed to increased retention, and payment links helped onboard new vendors. Within the first 6 months, UsePays processed over ₦500M in transaction volume and achieved a 4.9/5 user satisfaction rating. The modular architecture and clean UX have positioned the platform for continuous growth and rapid feature expansion.
